5 Ways to Get Ready for Your Next Showing FAST

You list your house on the real estate market.  You watch the for sale sign go up in your front yard.  You wait and then…RING! The phone rings.  It’s your real estate agent. You have a showing and they’re coming NOW.  Time to kick in high gear and get your home ready for a showing.

Clear the clutter

First step: pick up anything and everything on the floor. If you don’t have another place for it, put your clothes in the washer and dryer so it’s out of the way.  If you have any knick knacks or baby gear that takes up floor space, pack it in your car and take it along with you. A clean room with more space looks bigger to buyers.

Make the beds

You don’t have to make every bed with military precision, but your home looks better with the beds made.  Make a quick run through the home and make the beds so the bedrooms look neat and kept.

Freshen up

You don’t want buyers to be repelled by any odors in your house.  Empty your trash cans.  Bake cookies or put out air fresheners.  Freshen up your house, but don’t overdo it.  You don’t want your buyers to be suspicious that you’re trying to cover up any smells or problems.

Clean the bathroom

One of the things that’ll send potential home buyers straight to the door is a disgusting bathroom.  Clean the toilet, floor, shower, and counter so your buyers are looking at the size of the bathroom—and not the nastiness of it.

Don’t leave your furry friends behind

If possible, take your dogs and cats with you when you leave.  If you can’t, try to confine your pet to a safe spot in your home.  Mark the door or entrance to the area so potential buyers can be cautious in that area.

If you have any questions about getting ready for a showing, ask your real estate agent for advice.  An experienced real estate agent can tell you how to improve the curb appeal for your home and specific actions you can take to make your home more appealing to buyers—as well as a fair price so you can get your home sold quickly.
